CURRICULUM VITAE

Background

Dr. T’shura Ali is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Louisville. She has a joint faculty appointment with the Department of Epidemiology and Population Health within the School of Public Health and Information Sciences and the Division of Infectious Diseases within the School of Medicine. She is also the lead epidemiologist for the Division of Infectious Disease’s Center of Excellence for Research in Infectious Diseases (CERID).

Dr. Ali graduated from Bellarmine University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. As an undergraduate, she researched the anti-cancerous effects of Reishi mushroom on lung cancer proliferation and published and presented her findings at multiple conferences. She pursued her Master’s in Public Health (MPH) with specialization in Epidemiology in 2013 and at the same time worked at the University of Louisville School Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases as a research assistant. She started the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Public Health Sciences with specialization in Epidemiology in 2016. During her doctoral program, she has worked both as a teaching assistant for undergraduate- and graduate-level courses and as a research assistant, working on an NIH funded research study to examine tobacco exposure and fertility related outcomes. She was awarded the Doctoral Dissertation Completion Award and graduated in May 2020 with the Dean’s Citation Award. She successfully defended her dissertation on "Tobacco Smoke Exposures and Fertility-Related Outcomes Among Females Seeking Fertility Care, and Interaction with N-Acetyltransferase 2 (NAT2). She completed her postdoctoral fellowship with the Division of Infectious Diseases and the Department of Epidemiology and Population Health, working on clinical research focusing on COVID-19 and teaching epidemiology classes.

Currently at the School of Public Health and Information Sciences in Department of Epidemiology and Population Health, Dr. Ali continues to teach and assist with both undergraduate- and graduate-level courses, focusing on epidemiology and infectious diseases. She is also working on the Risk Underlying Rural Areas Longitudinal (RURAL) cohort study funded by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institutes (NHLBI); to address critical gaps in the knowledge of heart and lung disorders in rural counties in the southeastern United States regions. At Division of Infectious Diseases, Dr. Ali continues to work on multiple COVID-19 research studies. She is currently working on grant writing, overseeing research projects and data analyses, publishing manuscripts, as well as, mentoring interns and students. She leads the Post COVID-19 Research Clinic study that examines the short-and long-term effects of COVID-19 and is also a reviewer for the Journal of Respiratory Infections.

Dr. Ali is from Trinidad and Tobago and enjoys to spending time with her family, trying new foods and staying active.
