Program Highlights

  • Bachelor of Social Work

    UofL’s Bachelor of Social Work (120 credit hours) is offered 100% online and emphasizes issues of social justice, equipping you with the skills needed to effectively advocate for those without a voice.


    • Bring in previously-earned General Education credits or enter as a freshman
    • Enroll in an option Drug and Alcohol Counseling track
    • Qualify to enter UofL’s Master’s in Social Work program with advanced standing and ability to finish in as little as 1 year

  • Master of Science in Social Work

    UofL’s Master of Science in Social Work – ranked #1 in Kentucky – is offered 100% online for those who have a bachelor's degree in any area of study.


    • Complete your degree in as little as 1 to 2 years when you enter with advanced standing (30 hour program for those with a bachelor’s degree in social work)
    • Learn the theory and practice of social work from start to finish with the regular program (60 hour program for those with a bachelor’s degree in areas outside of social work)
    • Specialize in Psychosocial Oncology, Forensic Social Work, Mental Health, Alcohol and Drug Counseling, Military Social Work or Gerontology (optional) also online
    • Start whenever is convenient for you with 3 starts per year (Spring, Summer, Fall)

  • Doctor of Social Work (DSW)

    UofL’s Doctor of Social Work program (44 credit hours) can help you make a real difference in your community and the world. If you’re an experienced social worker ready to make a difference, the expertly-designed DSW curriculum will help you develop the skills you need to implement and innovate just practices that promote organizational and community change.

    • Experience the advantage of earning your degree from an R1 research institution.
    • Gain hands-on experience by completing a teaching practicum as well as a leadership practicum.
    • Complete your DSW in as little as 3 years (or 8 semesters).
    • Set yourself up for a successful career—according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Social worker employment is expected to grow 16% between 2016 and 2026.
