Nyazia Martin is an actress, dancer, teacher, and 2nd year MFA in Performance student at UofL. Her most recent professional stage work includes Matthew McLachlan’s The Murder Play with Jack & Melissa, Lauren Gunderson’s The Revolutionists, Adam Szymkowicz’s Kodachrome, Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra, and Shakespeare’s Winter’s Tale.Nyazia is a born and raised native of West Philadelphia, PA. Most of her days were not spent on the playground, but in theatre and dance classes. She graduated summa cum laude from Belmont University (2016), where she received her B.F.A. with an emphasis in Performance. During her senior year of undergraduate study, she and six of her classmates took their capstone performance of Alice, Ara Vito’s adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, to the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival, where they won several awards, including Best Ensemble. After graduating, Nyazia spent five years in Nashville working in professional theatre and at a private preschool. Before the pandemic struck, she also began dabbling in film. While at UofL, Nyazia has been in productions of Afromemory (2021), the Spring Shorts (2022), Blood at the Root (2022), and is currently touring two Theatre for Young Audiences shows with the UofL Repertory Company. Her next role is in the Spring 2023 production of Jackie Sibblies Drury’s Fairview
