Faculty and Staff Notables – Sept. 2018
Congratulations to the following SPHIS faculty and staff on their recent appointments:
Sherry Duffy, Deputy Director, Commonwealth Institute of Kentucky, was appointed chair of UofL’s Commission on the Status of Women (COSW) by UofL President Dr. Neeli Bendapudi. COSW helps represent, recruit, and retain highly qualitied women staff and faculty at UofL while working to ensure a positive impact on the campus climate for women. She began her two-year term on July 1, 2018.
Robert Esterhay, MD, Associate Professor, Department of Health Management and Systems Sciences, was appointed as the leader of the Telehealth Innovation Workgroup of the Kentucky Telehealth Association on July 9, 2018. He will oversee the work of the committee and subcommittees, which are responsible for conducting research on innovation and trends in telehealth, and making recommendations to the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services. Current trends in telehealth innovation include health systems innovation through telePharmacy, asynchronous telehealth services to manage chronic diseases, remote patient monitoring for underserved populations, and mental and behavioral health innovations utilizing telehealth advances and legislative changes to increase access to and reduce the cost of care.
Muriel Harris, PhD, Associate Professor, Department of Health Promotion & Behavioral Sciences, was appointed to the Commission on Diversity and Racial Equity (CODRE) by UofL President Dr. Neeli Bendapudi. She began her three-year term on June 30, 2018. CODRE advises the president on issues of diversity at UofL. In this new role, Dr. Harris will also monitor and assess unit action plans to enhance campus diversity and recommend funding strategies to achieve the annual objectives of the Board of Trustees as they relate to issues of diversity.
