Employee Awards Program

The Dean's Office is pleased to announce that we are accepting nominations for our new Outstanding Staff and Outstanding Faculty awards. Created by the school's Award and Recognition Committee, our new awards program will celebrate the incredible work happening across our school and community. Nominations are due by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1. 

"Fostering a culture of appreciation is a priority for our school," explained Dean Katie Cardarelli. "Our new Employee Awards Program is one meaningful way to recognize the contributions and achievements of our faculty and staff."

Award winners will be honored during the SPHIS Graduation & Awards Celebration on Tuesday, May 6 at the University Club. Special thanks to the members of the school's Awards and Recognition Committee for creating and coordinating these new awards. Committee members include: Tammy Albers (Co-Chair), Sara Choate, Andrew McCart (Co-Chair), Deepti Miller, Eric Nunn, Mitchell Priddy, Melissa Schreck, Shaminul Shakib, and Shuoyang Wang.


Submit a Nomination

All SPHIS faculty, staff, and students are invited to submit a nomination, which includes an essay (1000 words or less) that highlights the nominee's achievements in four key areas. These categories are described in more detail below. The essay is submitted using the nomination form. You can either type it into the form or upload it as a document. Nominees will be notified in advance so they can plan to attend the May 6 event.

Outstanding Staff Award

This award will recognize an SPHIS staff member who demonstrates excellence in service, innovation and leadership, collaboration and inclusion, and commitment to the school.

Service: Demonstrates a strong commitment to providing outstanding service to students, colleagues, and the school. This includes proactively identifying and solving problems, responding promptly and effectively to requests, and contributing to a positive, supportive, and efficient work environment through reliable and quality service.

Innovation & Leadership: Demonstrates creativity and initiative by developing solutions that improve processes, enhance efficiency, and support the school’s operations. Strong candidates regularly identify opportunities for improvement and lead efforts to implement positive change.

Collaboration & Inclusion: Fosters a respectful, welcoming, and team-oriented environment by working effectively with colleagues across the school. This includes supporting shared goals, building positive relationships, and contributing to a culture of inclusion and mutual respect.

Commitment to the School: Embodies the mission and values of the school and public health field through their daily work. This includes actively supporting school initiatives, promoting a positive workplace culture, and demonstrating dedication to the school’s success.

Outstanding Faculty Award

This award will recognize an SPHIS faculty member who demonstrates excellence in teaching, research, service, and leadership.

Teaching: Demonstrates innovative teaching strategies, exceptional teaching effectiveness, curriculum design, or technology, and/or a commitment to student learning and mentorship.

Research & Scholarship: Demonstrates significant contributions to public health research, demonstrated by high-impact publications, funded projects, and advancing knowledge in their field.

Community Engagement/Service: Demonstrates excellence in fostering community partnerships and collaboration with a sustained commitment to improving public health through service, outreach, or advocacy.

Leadership: Demonstrates exceptional leadership within the department, school, and the field of public health. This may include leading impactful projects, fostering collaboration, and advancing equity and inclusion efforts.

Evaluation

Nominations will be evaluated by the school's Awards and Recognition Committee using a rubric to assess excellence in each category using a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 representing outstanding performance.
