Jasmine L. Whiteside, PhD

Assistant Professor

Dr. Whiteside is an assistant professor in sociology and received her PhD in sociology from The Ohio State University in 2022. Research explores the decades of unequal access to educational resources and the experiences of students who overcome challenging circumstances to obtain their educational goal.  More specifically current projects focus on the educational experiences of first-generation students by highlighting key vulnerabilities (i.e., lack of social integration, financial insecurity, and academic precarity), the influence of racialized experiences in higher education, and the importance of educational resources and sources of support.
