Biography

Dr. Susan Laehn is grew up in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. She enrolled at the University of Louisville for her BA, and was awarded a McConnell Scholarship. After graduation, she went on to obtain her MA and PhD from Louisiana State University. Upon completion of her PhD, Dr. Laehn held teaching posts at University College London and then served as Assistant Professor of Politics at the University of Leeds, both in the United Kingdom.

She currently serves as a part-time faculty member at the University of Louisville, Adjunct Professor of Political Science at Iowa State University, and is a Non-Resident Fellow at the McConnell Center at UofL. She is co-editor of Welcoming the Other: Student, Stranger, and Divine (Lexington Books, 2021)and she has published in Social Science Quarterly and Political Research Quarterly. Her teaching and research interests include ancient and modern political theory, ethics and politics, applied political theory, American government, and research methods. 

In her spare time, Dr. Laehn enjoys reading, travel, renovating her 100-year-old home, and spending time with her husband and toddler.
