Dual Field Experiences

In addition to the exciting full-day programs we offer on site, you can choose to split the day between the planetarium and one of our collaborators.

The Kentucky Derby Museum
Supernovas to Superstars
Grades 4-8

Gallop over to the Gheens Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium and the Kentucky Derby Museum for a joint field trip adventure, as we explore the origins of Kentucky's soil, beginning with the formation of the Universe. We investigate the role of plate tectonics and natural processes in forming and shaping the natural wonders, in particular the soil of Kentucky and its role in producing the fastest racehorses in the world. It's a winning daily double!

To schedule this winning duo contact either Ronnie Dreistadt at the Kentucky Derby Museum or Kimberly Whitehead at the planetarium.

The Kentucky Science Center
Our Universe and Beyond
Grades K-8

Journey through the galaxy with a visit to the Science Center permanent exhibits. Test out the Gemini Trainer and work your way through the Aquasphere, Terrasphere, and Atmosphere before taking a journey of your own to visit Gheens Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium at the University of Louisville campus where students are immersed in easy-to-comprehend visual information that is enhanced with live demonstrations and discussions.

Add on the Science Center class Our Universe ($2.50/student) to delve deeper into space exploration.

Cost for dual program: $12 per student, $7 per chaperone, teachers are FREE!

Length: Unlimited time in Science Center permanent exhibits, 90-minute program at the Planetarium.
