Vilde Lid Aavitsland is Assistant Professor (Term) in the Department of Philosophy. She specializes in social and political philosophy and 20th century continental philosophy (especially Arendt and Foucault). Her work focuses on questions of political judgment, the impact of historical conditions for action and understanding, and political responsibility for historical injustices.

Her work has been supported by a Fulbright Flagship Scholarship and a year-long grant from the Norway-America Association, and awarded by The Society for Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy (SPEP) and the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

Her current projects include articles on experience and critique in Foucault’s thought, a manuscript on the concept of history in Foucault, and a manuscript on political judgment in Arendt.

Until recently, Vilde Lid Aavitsland served as assistant, and then associate, editor for the international peer reviewed journal Philosophy Today.
