Biography 

Gregory S. Hutcheson is associate professor of Spanish in the Department of Classical and Modern Languages. He has published widely on gender, sexuality and queer desire in the Spanish Middle Ages and contributed to edited volumes such as Same-Sex Desire Between Women in the Middle Ages (Palgrave, 2001), Queering the Middle Ages (Minnesota, 2001), and Under the Influence: Questioning the Comparative in Medieval Iberia (Brill, 2005). With Josiah Blackmore he coedited Queer Iberia: Sexualities, Cultures, and Crossings from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance (Duke UP, 1999). He has in his more recent research turned to the sites of cultural and confessional negotiation in the medieval Mediterranean, with a specific focus on literary and legal texts. Forthcoming are studies on transconfessionalism in the Libro de buen amor and sodomy as legal category in the medieval Mediterranean world. 
 
He is affiliated faculty in both the Medieval and Renaissance Studies program and the Middle East and Islamic Studies program at the University of Louisville. He also serves on the executive committee of the Modern Language Association’s Forum on Mediterranean Studies.
