Congratulations to Malarie Davis, Geography Major, who was accepted into UofL's Summer Research Opportunity Program (SROP)!

Congratulations to Malarie Davis, Geography Major, who was accepted into UofL's Summer Research Opportunity Program (SROP)! The SROP provides undergraduates who are interested in graduate-level education with a 10-week research experience in a UofL department. Malarie will be working with Dr. Maegen Rochner to develop a new regional tree-ring network using dendroarchaeological data from historic structures in Kentucky, Tennessee, and North Carolina. The project will use a combination of archived tree-ring data from historic structures, and new tree-ring data to be collected from additional structures in Kentucky and North Carolina, to develop extended tree-ring chronologies for the region. These chronologies will extend further back in time than many existing tree-ring networks for the three studied states and will provide data to assist in the study of past climate in the region and particularly significant events, such as severe early or late frosts and prolonged droughts. Malarie will present her work as part of an SROP poster session in July! As a participant in the program, Malarie will also receive a $3500 living allowance, and will attend weekly group seminars on topics related to research and graduate school.
