About
Kevin Basemann grew up in eastern Iowa and attended Iowa State University where he completed his B.S. in chemistry doing research on the development of novel organic reactions in the lab of George Kraus. He then chose to stay at Iowa State for his doctoral work joining the labs of Theresa Windus and Aaron Sadow where he did research on the development of machine learning and robotics to advance the rate of discovery and understanding of organometallic catalysts. In 2021 he completed his Ph.D. and went on to do postdoctoral work in the lab of Michel Gagné at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Here he developed a fundamental understanding of Z-type ligands and was able to develop reliable methods for converting traditionally X-type ligands into behaving as Z-type ligands around metal centers. Kevin started his faculty career at the University of Louisville in August of 2024.
