About the Department

Health promotion and interventions have a strong influence on health-related behavior as well as the economic, environmental, organizational and policy supports necessary for long-term health improvement. The Department of Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences offers instruction, conducts research and provides community service to advance public health education and health promotion competencies.

The department’s focus is on health information utilization and its effects on individuals and communities. Coursework is designed to help students develop critical thinking skills and to use these skills to understand and address public health issues. The department uses instructional styles such as online enhancement, team learning and community engagement to allow students to broaden their knowledge and interact effectively with local, state and federal agencies, individuals and communities.

The department offers a concentration in the MPH program and a PhD in Health Promotion.
