Green Heart's greening efforts will test if a greener neighborhood means a healthier community.

Through Green Heart the University of Louisville is testing if increasing greenness in an urban environment will result in better health for the people that live there. In 2019 and 2020 Green Heart's greening team will plant thousands of trees, shrubs, and grasses to add greenness to certain neighborhoods in South Louisville.

Learn More About Greening

To maximize the health benefits of greening, we offer the opportunity for planting as many trees and shrubs as is reasonable for residential yards. This option can involve planting an empty yard, or filling in a yard that already has plants.

Read our brochure to learn about the greening process and timeline.

Read our planting catalog to see how we plan to to increase greenness in yards and along roadways.

See if You're Eligible for Greening

If you live in South Louisville, take this short survey to see if you may qualify to have your home and yard "greened."

Throughout the next several years, we will need lots of help planting, watering, and maintaining all the new trees and shrubs that we're adding to Louisville's tree canopy. Louisville Grows is our greening partner to help you get involved. Louisville Grows will host Citizen Forester trainings and volunteer tree planting events for Green Heart during autumn 2019 and spring 2020.
