LOUISVILLE, KY -- Papa Johnís Cardinal Stadiumís multi-usage capability came into play in May of í99 as the George Strait Country Music Festival invaded the stadium and entertained more than 44,000 concert goers. Country music lovers from all over the mid-west converged to Louisville to see the beloved George Strait and company. "I love George Strait," said Chad Smith, "Heís one of the best."
The 12 hour music festival line-up included the likes of Tim McGraw, the Dixie Chicks, Kenny Chesney, Jo Dee Messina, Mark Wills and Asleep at the Wheel. Throughout the day, thousand of fans moseyed on down to Straitland to enjoy the sights and sounds not found on the main stage. Kara Hand said she found plenty of other things to entertain her between the sets including, "Hot guys, lots of beer and lots of advertisements" on the video screens.
The festival proved to be a huge success. A sell out crowd was entertained by the best in country music today. The concert grossed $2,090,180, the third highest sales total for the 1999 George Strait Country Music Festival tour. Not bad for the first-ever musical concert to be held at Papa Johnís Cardinal Stadium.
