(Renee Murphy - Interviewer): “The Mom’s Support Group at the University of Louisville provides resources, information, and support for student mothers. They have a big fundraiser coming up next week at Brendan’s Restaurant on Shelbyville Road, and you can help them out. For more details, we’re joined by Phyllis Webb – from UofL’s Women’s Center – and we’re also joined by a student from UofL, Kabrenda Warfield. So, we’re glad you have you guys on. (Addressing Kabrenda) You are a student mom, so tell us how this program has helped you.” 

(Kabrenda Warfield – UofL Senior and Mom): “The Mom’s support group has helped with finding local resources as far as childcare, housing, and things like that – so that I can obtain my degree in May and graduate. So, it’s been really helpful.”

(Renee Murphy): “Well, we’re looking forward to that. Congratulations – it ain’t easy!”

(Kabrenda Warfield): “(Laughs) No, not at all.” 

(Renee Murphy): “It’s not easy being a mom, and then school, and doing all this, and this really is a support for women. (Addressing Phyllis) And, tell us about the fundraiser and how people can help.”
(Phyllis Webb – UofL Women’s Center): “Ah, well, the fundraiser’s gonna at the Brendan O’Sheas restaurant on Shelbyville Road, on July the nineteenth. And, people can come – they can download coupons from our website to bring with them to the restaurant and use those. And, we just hope people come and support the moms.”

(Renee Murphy): “Yeah, and people can dine, and –“

(Phyllis Webb): “Mm-hm.”

(Renee Murphy): “ – and help you guys at the same time.”

(Phyllis Webb): “Right. They can even order take-out orders, but they have to have the coupon’s with them – if they can download the coupon on our website.”

(Renee Murphy): “We’re looking at some pictures here from some of the events here, and some of the people benefitting from the Women’s Center and the Mom’s Group. It’s so important to have just that little support – it can be the difference between graduating and not graduating. 

(Phyllis Webb): “Right, right. We try to work with the students. I know I was a student parent when I was working on my masters, trying to have someone watch a child while you go to class and have time to study and things like that. So, we try to provide that support for the students.”

(Renee Murphy): “Well thank you guys so much. And you can help out these student mothers. The Mom’s Group fundraiser, coming up next Tuesday, July 19th, at Brendan’s on Shelbyville Road. If you’d like more information on the group and to get the discounted tickets – the coupons – all you have to do is go onto our website – WHAS-11 dot com, and go to the “On TV” tab on the top of our home page, and we will link you up.”
