To celebrate and honor our Trailblazers and the anniversaries of both the 19th Amendment and the Voting Rights Act, there will be several events held on and off campus throughout the year.

Trailblazing Women Kick-Off

March 1st

To support this project and raise awareness Athletics has agreed to kick-off this program at the last regular season double header home games for women’s and men’s basketball on March 1. 2020, the first day of Women’s History Month.  

14th Annual Kentucky Women’s Book Festival

March 7th, 9am-2pm

UofL Law School

Featuring book signings and speakers, which is part of the University of Louisville’s observance of Women’s History Month. Speakers include Dr. Kaila Story, U of L associate professor of  women’s, gender and sexuality studies; children’s author Tytianna Wells; author and former youth minister Courtney Stevens; “The Boom Project” editors Kimberly Crum and Bonnie Johnson; and Dr. Sarah Anne Strickley, U of L creative writing teacher and author of  “Fall Together.” Journalist and author Pam Platt also will participate in a session about voting and asking women to share their stories about the first time they voted. Hosted by the Women’s Center and the Brandeis School of Law. Free registration  

A Century of Trailblazing Women: After Hours at the Speed Art Museum CANCELLED 

March 20th, 5-10pm

The Women’s Center and Commission on the Status of Women will be hosting a celebration and reflection on the passage of the 19th Amendment and Voting Rights Act as part of the Speed Museum After Hours series. Reprising “The Cost of a Vote” panel discussion highlighting the barriers to women from oppressed groups, this event will also include remarks by UofL's President and Provost, musicians, and the opportunity to walk through the gallery.

Kentucky Derby Festival Pegasus Parade TO BE ANNOUNCED

April 30th, 5pm

Organized by the Women’s Center and the Commission on the Status of Women, UofL will be marching in the parade highlighting our 45 trailblazing women by honoring our history, our voices, and our power in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th amendment and the 55th of the Voting Rights Act.
