Course Overview

This course is a six-hour continued education course, with three hours on real estate law, one and half hours on census data, and another one and half hours on affordable housing. This one-day workshop will guide students to examine legal issues related to planning and land-use activities in the U.S., the usefulness of census data for the real-estate industry, and the development of affordable housing through public, private, and non-profit partnerships.

Objectives and Goals

The purposes of this course is for students to be able to:
(1)   Apply legal and planning principles to land use problems;
(2)   Create creative possible solutions to land use problems;
(3)   Integrate multiple perspectives on land-use justice into advocacy and/or decision making;
(4)   Understand the common geographical units as designated by the Bureau of Census;
(5)   Find and use the right data for a real-estate decision; and
(6)   Understand the current stage of housing needs of low and moderate income households.
