(Editor's Note: This is the first of a regular column from health care professionals at UofL. They will feature information ranging from health issues to UofL faculty/staff benefits.)
The Centers for Primary Care at Cardinal Station and the Health Care Outpatient Center are entering their second year.
In that short time, we've seen a growth in the number of people who are coming to see our physicians in family and community medicine, internal medicine and combined medicine and pediatrics. Among them have been many UofL faculty and staff who are taking advantage of the convenient locations on and near the Health Sciences Center and Belknap Campus, and the benefit of no co-pays for our services. We're glad to work with the UofL benefits office to provide that convenience and cost-savings to participants in UofL health plans.
Our physicians are board certified experts in family and community medicine, internal medicine and combined medicine and pediatrics. When you need more specialized care, we can provide entry into the University Physicians network of pediatric and adult specialists that is more than 460 members strong.
Good health is no accident. We urge you to be proactive when it comes to your good health.
Eat fresh vegetables, low-fat meats and dairy products and avoid excessive sugar; exercise regularly; and drink plenty of water - especially in the summer heat. Know your numbers - cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar, heart rate - these are indications of your overall health. And get regular check-ups to make sure you're on track.
These simple steps can make a huge difference.
