Interested in trees? The Campus Tree Advisory Committee is open to all faculty, staff, students and community members interested in helping UofL protect and expand its tree population on campus. We meet once a semester, so please join us. We have much to discuss and plan for, including service learning projects, updates to the campus tree tour, and goals and objectives to add to our Campus Tree Care Plan.

2.) Research!Louisville Conflicts of Interest—Implications on Intellectual Property

This session will take a look at the areas where conflicts of interest intersect with intellectual property. Topics to be covered include ownership vs. exclusivity, royalties and publications. Session will be jointly presented by Research Integrity and Technology Transfer staff.

6.) Free flu shots today for students, faculty, and staff on Belknap Campus
Students, faculty and staff can get free flu shots through Campus Health Services ($5 for retirees) today, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., in the SAC lobby and from 4:30 p.m. - 7 p.m. at Community Park. A full schedule and a consent form are online. Download, print and complete the consent form. Then, bring it and your valid UofL ID to get your shot.

8.) Handling Microaggressions in the Workplace

Microaggressions are brief and commonplace verbal, behavioral or environmental indignities, (intentional or unintentional) that communicate hostile or derogatory messages toward racial, cultural, gender, age or sexual-identity minorities. This workshop will teach individuals how to identify, cope with and address microaggressions in a professional environment.

9.) UofL Listserv service to be upgraded Friday night
10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, to 2 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 28
The UofL Listserv service will be upgraded during IT’s regular preventive maintenance period. Listserv will be unavailable during PM and mail will be queued for later delivery. Please note that other systems (e.g. Blackboard, email, instant messaging, PeopleSoft, ULink, data services, etc.) may be taken offline without notice.

There are several options for sending email communication to students based on the frequency and the number of students who need to receive the email communication. Information on how to decide the best method as well as instruction on how to use each method is available online (PDF).

11.) Green Tip: Put your passion for sustainability into action with UofL EcoReps
2 p.m. - 3 p.m. Sept. 26 Cultural Center, Belknap Campus
The Sustainability Council’s EcoReps program is designed to move faculty, staff and students beyond talk to action for a sustainable UofL. We provide basic training and resources, service opportunities, and certification as a point-person and peer-to-peer advocate for sustainability. This year we begin a series of monthly gatherings and workshops for EcoReps at 2 p.m. Thursdays in the Cultural Center. Join us whether you’re a recycler, avid bike commuter, local foodie or social justice advocate.

12.) Service Spotlight: Free Literature Searching from Kornhauser Health Sciences Library
Exploring a research project? Need a literature review? Librarians at Kornhauser Health Sciences Library do free literature searches for HSC faculty, staff and students. We will also work with you one-on-one to teach you how to do a literature search in PubMed, CINAHL, or any of a number of literature databases.

Julio Ramirez, MD, is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of an investigational vaccine for diarrhea caused by Clostridium difficile or C.diff. To be eligible volunteers must be 50 years or older and either: Planning a surgical procedure that will likely keep them in the hospital for at least 72 hours; or, Have had at least 2 hospital stays, each lasting more than 72 hours, and have received systemic antibiotics in the past year.

14.) Auditory Training Research Study

The UL Audiology Program is recruiting adults aged 60 and older to participate in an auditory training study. Participants will be asked to perform auditory exercises over headphones across multiple sessions. Qualified individuals participating in the study will be compensated $10 a visit up to a total of $220, in addition to parking expenses.
