2.) Introduction to supervision: lead with confidence
May 20, 9 a.m., Human Resources 103A
This interactive series is designed to introduce and explore fundamental supervision responsibilities and techniques. The course curricula will integrate the participants’ day-to-day scenarios and challenges as they relate to supervising employees. At the conclusion of this series, supervisors should be able to: Define the role and responsibilities of a supervisor, talk in a clear and professional manner, listen to understand and resolve workplace conflict.
Additional Information: One course in this workshop runs for three consecutive days, three hours a day. Participants must enroll in the entire series, as the courses are not available individually. Registration: http://louisville.edu/hr/training/supervision.
3.) Get insights into caring for aging parents
May 22, 1:30 p.m., Human Resources, 103A
Many of us have elderly parents, relatives, and friends who will need an increasing amount of assistance as life goes on, sometimes gradually and sometimes suddenly. This presentation is intended to provide fundamental information to consider when you find yourself in the role of a care provider and to stimulate discussion among those in attendance to share insights from their experience care giving.

Kentucky National Guard Brig. Gen. Charles Jones will speak at UofL Army ROTC's spring commissioning ceremony. Four of the 14 cadets graduating from Cardinal Battalion are distinguished military graduates. A reception will follow in the SAC Multipurpose room.

5.) Two Upcoming Alumni Travel Trips
Ever considered travelling with the UofL Alumni Association? In February 2015, UofL alumni travelers will embark on a 14-night cruise from Buenos Aires to Antarctica, South America, Cape Horn and the Falkland Islands. In April 2015, a group will set sail on the Avalon Tapestry II from Paris to the French towns on the Seine River.

6.) Offices moving to The Nucleus Building later this month

The following administrative support divisions under the Office of the Executive Vice President for Research and Innovation will be moving to The Nucleus Building in downtown Louisville: Office of Industry Engagement, Office of Sponsored Programs Administration and the Office of Technology Transfer (OTT).

7.) Cancer Research Initiative for Students and Postdocs Journal Club monthly meeting
May 13, noon to 1 p.m., CTRB 123
Free and open to all students and postdocs working in the field of cancer research or related fields
The Cancer Research Initiative for Students and Postdocs (CRISP) Journal Club meets monthly during the academic year to focus on current issues in cancer research, offering opportunities for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows at U of L to discuss recent high-impact publications in the cancer field. 8.) Center for Genetics and Molecular Medicine symposium scheduled
May 15, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Delia Baxter Building Auditorium
CGeMM will be hosting several distinguished scientists whose research uses genetic and genomic approaches to understanding human diseases. Breakfast and lunch provided with pre-registration.
