1.) Register now for Pathways

Register today for the 2nd annual UofL Pathways Women’s Leadership Conference.  One featured speaker is Frances Lucas, vice president and campus executive officer of the University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast on Long Beach, who previously served as the first female president of Milsaps CollegeFocus will be on developing an idea from concept to action.

2.) Grant Crafting Brown Bag cancelled

May 8

The Grant Crafting Brown Bag session scheduled for May 8 (Project Narratives) has been cancelled. We hope you will join us for our next session on June 4, when the topic is Post Award Grant Management.

3.) New life for used commencement gowns

For the first time, UofL graduates can recycle their commencement gowns. Student Government Association volunteers will collect the used robes in 12 recycle bins placed around KFC Yum! Center on graduation day, May 10. They'll ship the garments to GreenerGrads, a Michigan company that will clean, store and redistribute them.

4.) ROTC to commission 14 cadets

May 9, 10 a.m., 100 Humanities Building

Kentucky National Guard Brig. Gen. Charles Jones will speak at UofL Army ROTC's spring commissioning ceremony. Four of the 14 cadets graduating from Cardinal Battalion are distinguished military graduates. A reception will follow in the Schneider Hall gallery.

5.) Family and friends campus visit scheduled

June 16, 10:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Student Activities Center, Room 310B

This Campus Visit Program is reserved just for prospective students who are children of UofL faculty and staff members. The executive director of admissions, Jenny Sawyer, will be presenting the information session. Parking is available and you will receive more information in your confirmation. You can sign up for this special campus visit on our online reservation form.

6.) Free therapy available as part of research study

College of Education and Human Development

Feeling down, anxious, depressed, or just in a funk? We are offering free therapy as part of a research study. The study involves an initial interview, completion of questionnaires and therapy sessions (typically up to 20 sessions). Therapy sessions are scheduled based on what is convenient for you. 8.) Medicine presents 2014 George Pedigo Lecture

May 8, 8 a.m., Clinical and Translational Research Building, Room 101-102

The Department of Medicine presents the 2014 George Pedigo Lecture featuring Mark P. Pfeifer, MD, professor of medicine, V.V. Cooke Chair of Medicine, and senior vice president/chief medical officer, UofL Hospital. Dr. Pfeifer will present "You and the Choosing Wisely Initiative: Can Physician Stop Thyself?" focusing on evaluating process for physicians in reducing low value testing/treatment, the national Choosing Wisely initiative's background, strategies promoting conversations on limiting low value medical care.

10.) Cardiovascular Medicine presents Dr. George Bakris

May 7, noon to 1 p.m., Jewish Rudd Heart and Lung Conference Center, Great Halls I and II

Please join us when Cardiovascular Medicine Grand Rounds welcomes Dr. George Bakris, professor of medicine and director, ASH Comprehensive Hypertension Center with the University of Chicago Medicine.  He will present "Resistant Hypertension and Interventional Approaches:  How to Proceed."
