1.) Planetarium: Astronomy Day
May 10, 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. Gheens Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium
$5/person
Join us for some out-of-this-world fun. Start the evening at 7 with a presentation, “Asteroids: Finding Them before They Find Us.” Next is our live “Skies Over Louisville” presentation that takes us on a tour of the constellations in the current night sky. Top off the evening with live viewing in the courtyard with Louisville Astronomical Society. Enter to win a telescope and other great prizes.

Noon-1 p.m. May 9, UofL Hospital Ambulatory Care Building; May 10, GHN Wellness Center
Free, faculty/staff/family, $4 healthy lunch (optional)
Thinking about taking the next step to best manage your diabetes? Come hear Rosie Murrell speak about her motivation to stay healthy as she manages a 200+ pound weight loss since her diabetes diagnosis. This free A1C Champion event is a special program that aims to encourage individuals ready to take control of diabetes and get the support they need. 7.) Stockroom closing for inventory

All departments must have orders to the Stockroom by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 10. The Stockroom will be closed for inventory from Monday, May 13, through Friday, May 17. The Stockroom will reopen on Monday, May 20. Any questions call 852-8216.

10.) Lab Safety and Hazardous Waste Training/Radiation Safety Orientation

Free
Lab employees who work with chemicals should attend the Lab Safety/Hazardous Waste session, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., if they have not had the training in three years. Individuals who will work with or around radioactive materials should attend the Radiation Safety Orientation session, which is from 11 a.m. to noon. Bring employee/student ID number to sign in. Samir Zakhari, PhD, senior vice president, Science, DISCUS (Distilled Spirits Council of the United States), will present. He was director of the Division of Metabolism and Health Effects National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism National Institutes of Health. He will give a seminar on “Epigenetics in Alcoholic Liver Disease.”
