1.) Cards Under the Stars: Come see Monsters University tonight

May 30, 6:30 p.m., beside the Natural Sciences Building, Belknap campus

Free

UofL’s free family movie night series returns for 2014! The first outdoor movie of the summer will be Monsters University. The event begins with entertainment and the film begins at dusk. Activities include children’s inflatables and games, music by Sonablast recording artist Heidi Howe and a “monster-face" photo contest. Concessions will be available for purchase from Holy Mole Taco Truck. Patrons are welcome to bring picnic baskets, coolers, lawn chairs and blankets. See full details of activities here.

This Weekend

2.) Dialogue features artists Jaydan Moore and Timothy Hawley

May 31, 2 to 3 p.m., Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft, 715 W. Main St.

Free for students, faculty and staff with UofL ID

Two artists featured in the exhibition, Press: Artist and Machine will discuss their work. Moore is a metalsmith who fragments and reassembles silver-plated tableware to challenge social pretensions. Timothy Hawley runs a fine arts press and is an author and artist. The Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft is a member of the Center for Arts and Culture Partnerships.

3.) Shop and support cancer research

July 30, 6 to 9 p.m., Outlet Shoppes of the Bluegrass, Simpsonville

Outlet Shoppes of the Bluegrass shopping mall, which opens July 31, is offering a chance to shop before the general public at a special ticketed-only event July 30 that will benefit the James Graham Brown Cancer Center. For just $50 per person, you get first access to the shopping center, a coupon book with year-round specials valued at more than $300, the opportunity to bid on silent auction packages being offered that night by Shoppes retailers and much more!

6.) Gregory Squires to discuss foreclosure and fair lending

The UofL Kentucky Institute for the Environment and Sustainable Development, Sustainable Urban Neighborhoods, Department of Sociology and Bellarmine University present George Washington University’s Gregory D. Squires, professor of public affairs and public administration, for his talk, "From Foreclosure to Fair Lending: Occupy, Inequality and the Role of Advocacy."
