At tomorrow’s Neuroscience Grand Rounds, the Department of Neurosurgery is pleased to have Jeffrey Buchsbaum, MD, PhD, AM, present, “Proton Therapy & The Neurosurgeon Were Walking Down The Street . . .” Buchsbaum is an associate professor in the Departments of Radiation Oncology, Pediatrics and Neurosurgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine and the Indiana University Health Proton Therapy Center. Continuing education credit is available, and continental breakfast will be served.

Join us for Department of Medicine Grand Rounds featuring Ashita Tolwani, MD, MSci, professor of medicine and associate director of ICU Nephrology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Tolwani will present, “Acute Kidney Injury: A Growing Threat,” focusing on defining AKI, identifying early signs of renal impairment based on laboratory and diagnostic tools and procedures and identifying risk factors and strategies to prevent and manage AKI.

Get Healthy Now offers a variety of free group fitness classes at the Wellness Center in the newly renovated Humana Gym. Members will enjoy motivation and camaraderie as they work towards fitness goals. Thirty professionally taught classes each week: Ab Lab, Boot Camp, Cardio Kickboxing, Indoor Cycling, Zumba and more. 4.) Attention all departments with new international GTAs
Departments with new graduate teaching assistants who will begin teaching fall 2013 and for whom English is a second language should remind them to schedule an appointment for an English language proficiency evaluation before they assume their teaching assignments. Appointments are available Aug. 14, 15, 20 and 21, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

5.) Faculty/Staff Small Grant Professional Development Fund
For the 10th year, the president and provost have funded the Staff/Faculty Professional Development program. The program is designed to enhance the knowledge, skills and abilities of the university community that will improve academic quality and services at UofL. Applications for events on or after June 12 are now being accepted. Send your application to the Staff Senate Office, attention Gretchen Henry.

6.) Infant scientists wanted

The UofL Infant Cognition Lab (Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences) is conducting several studies on infant face perception. Infants who are between 3 and 14 months old with normal vision and hearing are invited to participate. Participation involves one brief visit to campus. Infants will receive a UofL T-shirt or bib for participating. HSPPO#: 053.06

7.) Face recognition study for infants 6, 8 and 10 months old
