Grand Rounds

1.) Neuroscience - Phenotypic screening to identify genes & compounds that promote axon regeneration

This Friday's Neuroscience Grand Rounds will feature a presentation from Vance Lemmon, PhD, professor and Walter G. Ross Distinguished Chair in Developmental Neuroscience, Department of Neurological Surgery, The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, University of Miami. Continuing education credit is available, and continental breakfast will be served.

Please join us for a two hour retirement workshop sponsored by School of Accountancy instructor Sheila Johnston, CPA and CFP. Topics include discussion of UofL benefits, amounts needed for retirement, basic retirement issues, and much more. Sheila has great experience in retirement issues, and you will leave with a better sense of planning for the future.

3.) Customer service gains highlighted in spring Technically Speaking newsletter

Did you know that IT earned a 12-percentage-point increase in customer satisfaction for email services in 2012? Faculty and staff were particularly pleased with wireless and research computing, too! The spring issue of Technically Speaking, IT’s quarterly newsletter, features this good news and more. You can also read about the great value of IT Design & Print and the Data Center’s new green initiatives.

4.) Anne Braden Institute research awards

The University of Louisville’s Anne Braden Institute for Social Justice Research announces our 6th Annual Social Justice Research Award. Please let your students know about this opportunity to win $300 or $100 prizes.

5.) Heads up: Seven days remain to order caps and gowns for the May 2013 commencement ceremony

The deadline to order a cap and gown for the May 2013 commencement ceremony is midnight Sunday, March 31. Graduation participants should visit the commencement web site for ceremony information and to place a cap and gown order.

6.) PLAN professional development workshops for graduate students

PLAN is a series of free professional development workshops for graduate students. Graduate students interested in attending can register on the PLAN website, and click on the PLAN calendar there to learn about other upcoming workshops and events.

7.) Final faculty and graduate student learning community on mentoring

Noon March 29, Houchens Building, Room 105

The Faculty and Graduate Student Learning Community on Mentoring will join for their final session with the DGS Reading Group that has been meeting in parallel all year. Together, they will discuss graduate education and mentoring practices at UofL and evaluate strategies to extend these conversations in the departments and across the university. All faculty and graduate students are welcome to join this conversation, regardless of prior participation. Lunch available to registrants.
