2.) Deadline Extended for 2014 Trustees Award Nominations

The deadline for the university community to nominate faculty members for the 2014 Trustees Award has been extended to March 18. The Trustees Award recognizes faculty members who have had an extraordinary impact on students' college experience.  Nomination instructions and forms may be obtained through any academic department or via the web.

3.) Last chance to register for the 2014 Kentucky Student Success Summit

April 7 and 8, Louisville Marriott East

This year’s summit features a keynote session by Kati Haycock, president, Education Trust. Other featured speakers include Deborah Santiago, chief operating officer and vice president for policy and research at Excelencia for Education. Limited conference spaces are available free to faculty and staff through the Office of the Provost. Deadline to register is March 14. Learn more and register here.

4.) Mobile mammography van on campus for mammogram screenings

9 a.m. – 4 p.m. April 9, Gottschalk Circle on Belknap Campus (next to Shumaker Research Building)

Is it time for your annual mammogram? If so, you're in luck. UofL’s Kentucky Cancer Program is pleased to bring the mobile mammography van back to Belknap campus on Wednesday, April 9. For UofL employees 40 and over, mammograms will be provided by UofL Hospital and the Brown Cancer Center. Insurance, Medicare or Medicaid will be billed. UofL insurance covers 100 percent. 5.) Jane Goldstein nominated for Most Admired Woman in Education

Jane Goldstein, assistant dean for development and external affairs in the College of Business, has been nominated in Today’s Woman magazine’s annual Most Admired Women poll. Jane has been a respected member of the College of Business faculty and administration for more than 40 years and in 2012 had a plaza named in her honor. Vote for Jane daily until March 31 at Today's Woman.

6.) Free legal clinic for cancer patients and families and/or caregivers

5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. April 9, second floor, Community Room, Gilda’s Club, 633 Baxter Ave.

UofL’s Kentucky Cancer Program will be hosting a free legal clinic for cancer patients and their families and/or caregivers. Attorneys will be available to offer free help on life planning documents, employee benefits during illness and government assistance. Refreshments/dinner provided. Sponsored by KCP, Louisville Bar Association, and Louisville Pro Bono Consortium. Reservations required. Call 852-6318 to RSVP.

Please join us Friday for the fourth annual Dr. Thomas H. Pinkstaff Memorial Lectureship featuring Gregory Neal Barnes, MD, PhD. Barnes is an associate professor and the Spafford Ackerly Chair in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in the Departments of Neurology and Pediatrics at UofL. He will present “State of Autism 2014: Challenges, Research and Vision for the Future.”

12.) Family and Geriatric Medicine: Moore discusses autoimmunity, aging immune system

7:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. March 14, Bottigheimer Auditorium, Jewish Hospital

Free

Charles Moore, MD; assistant professor, Department of Medicine Division of Rheumatology, presents “Autoimmunity and the Aging Immune System.” He will review basic clinical immunology and go over immune aging and senescence, particularly as it relates to autoimmune and rheumatologic diseases. He will also briefly touch on the aging immune system and the connection with malignancy and atherosclerosis. CME category 1 is available for both AAFP and ACCME accreditation and a continental breakfast will be provided.

13.) Parker to discuss “Cost of Care in Gynecologic Oncology”

1 p.m. March 14, basement auditorium, Ambulatory Care Building

Please join us as Lynn Parker, MD, Thomas D. Day Jr Endowed Chair in Gynecology Oncology and director, Gynecology Oncology Division, UofL School of Medicine, presents “Cost of Care in Gynecologic Oncology.” Parker will discuss indications in cancer surveillance and the benefits of palliative care in patients with gynecologic malignancies.
