1.) Smoking cessation on Belknap

Faculty/staff: free
This 13-week class offers weekly motivation, accountability and discussions on smoking cessation using the Cooper-Clayton method to stop smoking. In addition to the weekly classes, participants succeed through the use of such nicotine replacement products as patches, gum, lozenges and prescriptions.

2.) University network and Internet offline Friday night
10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2 - 2 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3
The university’s network and Internet connection will be offline during IT’s regular preventive maintenance period for a firewall upgrade. During this time, automated processes or programs that require network connectivity will be offline. Users also will be unable to access their on-campus computers from home via remote desktop during this time period. If you experience any connectivity issues after this change has been completed, call the IT HelpDesk at 852-7997.

3.) Libraries’ Robotic Retrieval System undergoes preventive maintenance
Aug. 6 - Aug. 8
The Libraries’ Robotic Retrieval System located in Ekstrom Library will undergo quarterly preventive maintenance. Items requested from the RRS may be delayed or slow because of the maintenance. Items that are delayed will be available that evening or the following morning.

4.) Staff Senate seeks people to fill vacancies
The Staff Senate has a vacancy in these units: Education, Kent School, School of Medicine, Athletics and Information Technology. Learn more about the Staff Senate. This session will provide 2 contact hours for post doc and the NIH requirement and will briefly cover all RCR areas including animal welfare, biological and environmental safety, HIPAA relating to research and human subjects, conflicts of interest, fiscal responsibility, authorship and publication, collaboration, data management and stewardship, mentor/mentee relationships, peer review, social responsibility in science, and research misconduct. Join us for “Local Food/Local Fuel,” a discussion about how entrepreneurship and local investing contribute to thriving local food and green economies with Carol Hewitt, co-founder of Slow Money NC, and Lyle Estill, founder of Piedmont Biofuel. Hosted in partnership with Slow Money KY and Kelley Green Biofuel by UofL’s Sustainability Council, working to cement local partnerships to supply more local food, while supporting area farmers and biodiesel producers.

9.) Kentucky in the War of 1812
2 p.m. Aug. 4 Riverside, the Farnsley-Moremen Landing, 7410 Moorman Road
Free and open to the public. Reservations recommended.
Eddie Price, author of “Widder’s Landing,” will discuss Kentuckians’ role in the War of 1812, including the fact that Kentuckians constituted 64 percent of all the casualties in the war.
Riverside, the Farnsley-Moremen Landing, is a member of UofL’s Center for Arts and Culture Partnerships.
