1.) Poster Session of Summer Undergraduate Research
Noon - 3 p.m. July 31 Abell Administration Center, Rooms 109, 110, Health Sciences Center
Undergraduate students will present the results from their 10-week summer research experience. Participants in the Biology REU, Cancer Education R25, Chemistry REU, KBRIN, Physiology Cardiovascular, SROP, and students supported by faculty grants, will present.

2.) Career colloquium for graduate students
9 a.m. Aug. 3 Houchens Building, Room 105
In this intensive, half-day, weekend workshop, we’ll cover career basics from top to bottom. Beginning with an overview of the job market and various career paths for graduate students, you’ll spend time reflecting on your PLAN for a successful job search. Topics to be covered include job materials (resumes, CVs and cover letters), job interviewing, transferable skills and making a PLAN for your next steps. Registration closes JULY 26, so register today on the PLAN website.

3.) Information session for the Certificate in Health Professions Education program
Noon - 1 p.m. July 23 Room 205, Elkes Conference Room, Instructional Building, Health Sciences Center
The fall semester course will be ELFH 675-96 Teaching and Learning in Health Professions Education. The Certificate in Health Professions Education Program is aimed primarily at health care professionals who are teaching in a health care educational program and would like to enhance their teaching skills. The certificate program is especially beneficial for physicians, dentists, nurses, researchers, dental hygienists and others interested in a career teaching at an academic health center.

4.) 2013 CUMU Conference registration
October 27 - 29, Galt House
UofL will host the 19th annual conference of the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities (CUMU). Exclusive conference rates available for UofL faculty, staff, and students. Full conference rate is $350; One day pass is $200; and student rate is $100.

5.) Conflict of Interest training
9 a.m. July 22 Room 139, Shumaker Research Building
Free
Objectivity in Research: this 60-minute session will cover the current regulatory environment, discuss how to disclosure external interests and provide one contact hour for post doc and NIH requirement. The session fulfills the COI training requirement.

6.) Let students know about your programs and events
Don’t forget to post news and events in the Student News and Events weekly email. Submissions must be in before noon on the Thursday immediately preceding the Saturday email. Fall 2013: The first email will go out on Aug. 17. There will be no email Nov. 30 and the final email will go out on Dec. 14. Spring 2014: The first email will go out on Jan. 11, there’ll be no email March 8 and the final email will go out on April 26. No emails are sent during the summer.

7.) High blood pressure study: 1 year through 5 years old

The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the safety and dose response of an investigational drug used for high blood pressure. Children from 1 year to < 6 years of age diagnosed with high blood pressure may be eligible for participation. Subjects will be compensated for time/travel.

8.) High blood pressure study: 6 years through 11 years old

The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the safety and dose response of an investigational drug used to treat high blood pressure. Children from 6 through 11 years of age diagnosed with high blood pressure may be eligible for participation. Subjects will be compensated for time/travel.

9.) Pain study: Infants and toddlers less than 2 years

The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate acetaminophen given into a vein to treat moderate to severe pain in infants and children less than 2 years of age following surgery or an injury. Subjects may be compensated for time/travel.

10.) Pain study: Ages 2 years through 12 years

The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate an oral liquid pain medicine to treat pain following surgery in children from 2 years through 12 years of age. Subjects may be compensated for time/travel.
