1.) 2013 Invitational Honor Band concert

UofL band faculty will conduct about 200 outstanding high school student musicians from Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio in the Invitational Honor Band weekend concert. Band directors, private instructors and UofL faculty nominated the students to participate based on their fine musicianship.

Shlomit Schaal, MD, PhD; director, Diabetic Retinopathy Service; assistant professor, Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, UofL, will present “Diabetic Retinopathy-What’s New.” Schaal will introduce the changing concepts in the pathobiology of diabetic retinopathy. She will present the paradigm shift in the management of diabetic retinopathy. Category 1 is available for both AAFP & ACCME accreditation. A continental breakfast will be provided.

9.) EVPRI is taking applications for Internal Grants for research for spring 2013
Deadline is Monday, March 25
The Office of the Executive Vice President for Research and Innovation is taking applications for intramural research grants. Full- and part-time faculty may apply for a Research on Women grant. Full- and part-time students may apply for the Undergraduate Research Scholar grant. All others are open only to full-time faculty. Term faculty, one year or less, are ineligible for MRG, PCG and RIG grants. This program aims to provide funds for projects for which the investigator intends to seek external funding.

10.) Libraries Robotic Retrieval System to undergo preventive maintenance
Jan. 29–Jan. 31 Ekstrom Library
The Libraries’ Robotic Retrieval System in Ekstrom Library will undergo quarterly preventive maintenance. Items requested from the RRS may be delayed or slow because of the maintenance. Items that are delayed will be available the evening of the request or the following morning.
