Miscellaneous

3.) Intramural champions pictures now online

For more than 50 years, one of the great traditions on our campus has been the annual All Campus Champions Board or “Wall of Champions.” University Archives has teamed with Intramural and Recreational Sports to digitize all intramurals champions boards and photos dating back to 1962. The pictures are now online at this link.

Additional Information: John Smith, 852-6707.

4.) Recipients selected for Provost’s Awards for Exemplary Advising

Tony Robinson, coordinator in Undergraduate Affairs, and John Richardson, undergraduate faculty advisor in the College of Arts and Sciences, University Honors Program, are recipients of the 2013-2014 Provost’s Awards for Exemplary Advising. A reception to honor them and other nominees is planned for mid-April.

5.) Colon Cancer Awareness “Dress in Blue Day” is March 7

UofL’s Kentucky Cancer Program is encouraging everyone to wear blue on Friday, March 7, for National Dress in Blue Day as part of Colon Cancer Awareness Month. Colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer related deaths in the country as well as in Kentucky, killing nearly 900 people each year in our state. Colon cancer screening saves lives, but unfortunately many people are not being screened. Please wear blue and help raise awareness of this preventable disease.

Additional Information: Jaime Wientjes, 852-6318. Colon Cancer Resource Toolkit. Flyer here.

6.) PLAN Workshop: Writing a literature review

2 p.m. – 3 p.m. Feb. 18, Room 105, Houchens Building

The literature review is one of the most common genres of scholarly writing, yet one that can be frustrating if you’re not used to producing them. In this workshop we will explore the purpose the literature review serves in scholarly writing, some of the important conventions of the genre and strategies for how to approach writing the strongest literature review possible.  Graduate students interested in attending can register and find more information on the PLAN website.
