Here's what to expect at this week's farmers markets on the HSC and Belknap campuses:
FARMERS MARKET HIGHLIGHTS FOR JUNE 12, 2014
Gray Street Farmers Market
10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Make sure to check out all of the great greens that are in season this week. If
you’re in the mood for a good meal, pull together some of your favorite veggies
from the market and cook this
Asian-themed stir fry for dinner sometime this week. Don’t be scared to
veer away from the recipe, just use whatever ingredients you can find at the
market – it will be delicious!
Debbie Stice, an employee at Frazier Rehab, won the $25 gift certificate to spend at the Gray Street Farmers Market. Please stop by the information booth to register for next month’s drawing.
Flour Power will be bringing the usual: whole grain breads and cookies.
Full Heart Farm will have granola, strawberry cabernet jam, assorted breads, cookies, local honey, and Rimmer’s salsa and squash relish. Full Heart will also have a specially prepared frog jam made with figs, raspberries, oranges, and ginger, as well as a pineapple sage jam (a perfect seafood topping!)
Granny’s Delights will have squash, zucchini, cucumbers, new potatoes, kale, collard greens, lettuce, beets, onions, spinach, sugar snap peas, and peas. Granny’s will also be bringing homemade salsa, pickles, jams, and jellies.
Green Farm will have baby bok choy, amaranth, mixed lettuce, kale, bamboo shoot lettuce, and pancakes.
Gypsy Ridge Farm will have strawberries, zucchini, summer squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce, onions, bell peppers, green beans, wax beans, and maple syrup.
Jackson’s Produce will have tomatoes, cucumbers, and more.
Lowe Creek Farm will have bibb lettuce, bok choy, red mustard greens, and freshly picked blueberries and raspberries. Lowe Creek will also be selling cherry turnovers, blueberry turnovers, and bacon-maple muffins made by The Plump Peacock Bakery.
Mr. G’s Kettle Corn will be popping local Kentucky Proud Kettle Corn. Website
GMeals is featuring a sandwich bar. Have your sandwich on fresh bread or have it “naked” and get your choice of meat and veggies with sauce in a bowl.
- Protein: roast beef, chicken breast, or Portobello.
- Toppings: fresh greens, onion, tomato, and house made pickles or slaw.
- Spread: pesto, spicy cajun, or cilantro lime.
Red Top Gourmet Hotdogs offers natural casing Vienna (beef) and frankfurters (beef and pork) hot dogs, homemade Coney sauce, tomato/basil sausage, and BBC root beer on tap.
Sweet N Savory will be serving savory and sweet crepes (listed below), fruit smoothies, gelato, sorbet, and frozen coffee. Website
- Caprese: Fresh mozzarella, tomato, roasted garlic and basil pesto, honey balsamic sauce; option to add chicken, turkey, ham, or bacon
- Reuben: Sliced corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and savory sauce
- BLT: Applewood bacon, spinach, tomato, and choice of garlic mayo or honey mustard
- Hot Brown: Roasted turkey, applewood bacon, tomato, topped with Mornay cheese sauce
- Ham and Cheese: Smoked ham, spinach, choice of cheese, choice of garlic mayo or honey mustard
- Eccentric: Sautéed spinach, mushroom, and artichoke topped with Parmesan cheese and honey balsamic sauce
- Strawberries and Chocolate: macerated strawberries covered in white and dark chocolate
- Banana Nutella or Plain Nutella
Belknap Farmers Market

The vendors and organizers of the Belknap Farmers’ Market look forward to seeing you tomorrow! We are so excited that the Belknap market has been a success! Come check us out at 3rd Street and Brandeis Avenue. This week you won’t want to miss the great products and activities the vendors have to offer. Stop by the Belknap Farmers Market information booth to sign up for our listserv and get in drawings to win one of several door prizes that will be given away over the next few months.
Bread and Breakfast will have a various assortment of breads such as country style and European. Also cinnamon rolls, gluten free pastries and breads

Note: This week we will have order forms on hand for our take-home Mediterranean and Plant-Based meal plans, where farmers market attendees can place their order with us and we will deliver their meals the following Thursday.

Marvins Gardens will have potatoes, onions, kale, collards, chard, beets, herbs, garlic scapes, radishes and peas
Mr. G’s Kettle Corn will be popping local Kentucky Proud kettle corn, which will include my original sweet & salty kettle corn, and caramel kettle corn!
Paradise Island Local Tea will have Paradise Island Tea and African hats
Swallow Rail Farm will have blueberries, eggs, lamb and welcomes any pre-orders on whole and half chicken that will be available at the Belknap Market on June 19th
