The Department of Neurosurgery is pleased to have Bruce Pike, PhD, present “Multi-Modal MRI-based DBS Neurosurgery Planning.” Pike recently joined the University of Calgary as the CAIP chair in Healthy Brain Aging and the head of the Division of Image Science and deputy head (Research) in the Department of Radiology. He’s also a professor of Clinical Neurosciences. Please note the one-time only location change to the Jewish Hospital Fixed Auditorium.

2.) Family and Geriatric Medicine

Diane Harper, MD, MPH, MS, chair of family and geriatric medicine, UofL, presents “Lessons We Have Learned in Cervical Cancer Prevention.” Attendees will be able to recognize the effectiveness of cytology screening for cervical cancer prevention; evaluate the importance of screening attendance for cancer detection efficacy; list HPV transmission factors; and critique the use of anitbody titers after HPV vaccination for clinical vaccination decisions.

3.) Medicine

The Department of Medicine features Laurence H. Beck Jr., MD, PhD, assistant professor of medicine in the Section of Renal Medicine at Boston University. Beck will present “Membranous Nephropathy for the 21st Century Practitioner” focusing on summarizing recent research, appreciating the role of biomarkers in the diagnosis of membranous nephropathy and better appraising evidence behind traditional and emerging treatments.

4.) No Cardiovascular Medicine Grand Rounds

Cardiovascular Grand Rounds will resume on Wednesday, Jan. 8 when Kenneth Bauer, MD, professor at Harvard Medical School and director, Thrombosis Clinical Research at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center presents, “CAPs: Creating Anticoagulation Plans to Prevent Stroke in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation.”

7.) Cardinal junior winter tennis camps

1 p.m. – 5 p.m. Begins Dec. 21, UL Bass-Rudd Tennis Center

$42 per day

Please join us for our junior tennis camps through Dec. 21 to Dec. 23 and Dec. 26 to Jan. 4. Cost is only $42 per day. Come to one or all days. Junior ages are 8 – 18. All levels are welcome. Spaces are limited to the first 32 players so sign-up today.

8.) Health Sciences Center’s Kornhauser Library Renovation Project

Dec. 17 kicked off step one of Kornhauser Library’s renovation project. The entire second floor of the library will be modified to better suit the needs of our patrons. We’ve created a Web page to help everyone stay up-to-date with construction.

The Department of Anatomical Sciences and Neurobiology will host a seminar by Kerin M. Claeson, MD, of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. The topic of her seminar is “Peripheral Nervous System: Autonomics Review.”
