1.) Research!Louisville: Call for abstracts
Abstract submissions due by Sept. 1
Research!Louisville will run Sept. 24 - 27 in the Clinical and Translational Research Building, Health Sciences Center. Faculty, post-docs, research associates, residents, clinical fellows, research staff, graduate and professional students are invited to submit an abstract on their life science research for a poster presentation. Submit an abstract.

2.) Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Women’s Health

Michael Leonard, MD, co-chief medical officer and principal at Pascal Metrics Inc., will describe the Team Based Engagement Model (TEM) utilizing techniques to identify, understand and sustain a learning environment; define a reliable team process; detect and mitigate harm; and identify effective communication and team work to promote patient safety.

Join us for a Pediatric Grand Rounds featuring Tobias Loddenkemper, MD. Loddenkemper is an associate professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School and will present “Status Epilepticus.” We hope to see you there.

Michael Haboubi, DO, stroke neurologist, Department of Neurology, UofL, presents “Concussion in Sport.” He will discuss the new AAN guidelines regarding concussion and the differences between the AAN guidelines, the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine Position Statement, and the Zurich Conference on Concussion in Sport. He will also discuss some of the research that is being done in concussion and returning athletes to play. CME category 1 is available for both AAFP & ACCME accreditation and a continental breakfast will be provided.

5.) Today at The Root Mobile

The Root Cellar will be on campus selling its regular farm-fresh produce, fruits and vegetables. In addition, they are bringing in a special guest this week, a representative from Sapori d’Italia, for a cheese tasting. It is truly amazing Italian-style local cheese, made by hand.

6.) Kornhauser Health Sciences Library fall semester hours
The Kornhauser Health Sciences Library fall semester schedule will begin Monday Aug. 5 and end Friday, Dec. 13.

7.) Final Reminder: Paul Weber Award submissions due Aug. 15
The application period for the 2013 - 2014 Paul Weber Award is coming to a close. Submissions for the first stage of the award are due Aug. 15. One deserving department will win $30,000, and it could be yours.

8.) Auditory Training Research Study
Audiology Research Suite, Medical Dental Apartment Building
The UL Audiology Program is recruiting adults aged 60 and older to participate in an auditory training study. Participants will be asked to perform auditory exercises over headphones across multiple sessions. Qualified individuals participating in the study will be compensated $10 a visit up to a total of $220, in addition to parking expenses. (IRB # 12.0598)

9.) The Morgan Colbert MD Lectureship

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery presents Frank Frassica, MD, professor of orthopaedics and oncology at Johns Hopkins University. Frassica will lecture on “Imaging, Decision Making, and Biopsy—Soft Tissue Tumors.” Case presentations by the orthopaedic surgery residents will follow at 8 a.m.

10.) Crazy Idea Day

The Molecular Targets Seminar Series will present “Crazy Idea Day.” Our speakers will be Levi Beverly, PhD, Douglas Dean, PhD, and Jun Yan, MD, PhD. This seminar series is funded by the Brown Cancer Center Joan Cralle Day Cancer Research Fund. Refreshments will be served at 3:30 p.m.
