Announcements Oct. 30, 2012

by UofL Today last modified Oct 29, 2012 01:29 PM expired

Faculty/staff announcements submitted for posting Oct. 29. They are in the Oct. 30 UofL Today email.

Benefits Tip: If you waive health insurance, UofL automatically funds $175 per month for you in a Health Care Flexible Spending Account. If you wish to have those funds go instead to a Dependent Care account, you must elect a Dependent Care FSA. If you do not make that selection, your waiver funds automatically default to the Health Care Flexible Spending Account. Health Care and Dependent Care FSAs must be maintained separately. Funds cannot be transferred from one account to the other. Learn more at Chard Snyder or find out more at the Nov. 1 or Nov. 2 benefit information fair. Open Enrollment ends Nov. 5. Go to the Open Enrollment website for information and to make your selections.

Did you know research shows recognition is more important to employees than pay and compensation? Staff and faculty thrive in areas when they are recognized for their hard work and talent. But, what is recognition? Kathleen Gosser is a lively and entertaining speaker who will provide insight on why recognition is important, how to provide it and how you can sustain it. If you're looking for ways to provide positive recognition to your staff, please attend this workshop.
Additional Information: Registration. Direct questions to staff development.

Information Technology
5.) Information Technology does not recommend Windows 8
After extensive testing, IT does not recommend using the new Windows 8 operating system for UofL business. Windows 8 is not fully compatible with several key university applications, including ULink functions such as adding, removing, searching for and scheduling classes, and transcript viewing. It also does not work with the university’s VPN client or spam filtering system. This new operating system is designed with tablet users in mind and is not recommended for widespread use at UofL.
Additional Information: IT HelpDesk, 852-7997

He continued teaching, seeing patients and precepting – supervising medical students, residents and fellows – at UofL until the age of 79 in 2011.
