Benefits Tip: Is your physician in UofL’s health insurance network? Know before you schedule an appointment to assure in-network benefit coverage. The most up-to-date information (updated weekly) is at myuhc.com. You also can call the customer service number on the back of your insurance ID card. If you are a Cardinal Care member, find a UofL physician here or call 813-8585. Open Enrollment ends Nov. 5. Go to the Open Enrollment website for information and to make your selections.

1.) UofL Cares Event - Halloween Party & Feed Your Soul Buffet
11:30 am – 1:30 pm Oct. 31, University Club Ballroom, Belknap Campus
$7 at the door for Soul Food Buffet, 25 cents per vote
Trick or Treat, get something good to eat, support a great cause, and, as a bonus, see the UofL Cares chair in a “Thrilling Event.” The UofL Cares Halloween Party and Soul Food Buffet is this Wednesday! University chefs are preparing fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, green beans, corn, cornbread, tomato, cucumber, salad and sweet tea. Come dressed in your favorite costume and bring a creative pumpkin to enter in the contest. There will be door prizes and all in attendance get a free coffee cup.

2.) GIS Day is coming

3.) HSC Research Forum: A Primer on Opportunities at Nucleus
4 p.m. Oct. 30, Clinical & Translational Research Building, Health Sciences Center
Topics include space and equipment for start-ups, assistance with SBIR proposals, I-Hub center, and the relationship between Nucleus and UofL Industry Contracting and Office for Technology Transfer (OTT). Presentations will be given by Vicki Yates Brown and Bruce Traughber of Nucleus and Bill Dawson of GLI’s Enterprise Corp. Question and answer session to follow.

7.) Medical Geography: Exploring Health, Disease and Environment through a Geographic Lens
Noon Nov. 1, University Club, Belknap Campus
$14 per person, $7 for students
The College of Arts and Sciences presents a monthly lunch and lecture series titled “Meet the Professor.” This month Carol Hanchette, professor of geography, will discuss the role of mapping and spatial analysis in her research, using prostate cancer, lead poisoning, asthma and ovarian cancer as examples.
