1.) Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Women's Health, Resident/Fellow Research Day Keynote Address

Yolangel Hernandez Suarez, MD, MBA, associate dean for graduate medical education and chief medical officer, FIU Health, Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, Florida International University, presents “Reproductive Health Policy: Why Medicaid Matters.” She will identify access issues that will be affected by the Affordable Care Act, web based resources to seek data on states’ coverage of women’s health services and the role Medicaid plays in steering U.S. reproductive health policy.

2.) Pediatric Grand Rounds

This Friday, May 31, please join us for a Pediatric Grand Rounds featuring David Kenagy, MD, who is an associate professor of pediatrics, and division chief of pediatric nephrology at UofL. Kenagy will be speaking about infant hypertension including methods available for measuring blood pressure in infants, factors that can affect that measurement and the common perceptions of “normal” blood pressure. 3.) Family and Geriatric Medicine Grand Rounds

Ali Haider, DO; Eye Specialists of Louisville PSC, presents “Introduction to Cataract & Cataract Surgery” and will discuss the signs, symptoms and pathophysiology of cataracts and the modern surgical options available to treat cataracts. CME category 1 is available for both AAFP & ACCME accreditation and a continental breakfast will be provided.

6.) ADA Training

Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law on July 26, 1990. Nearly 23 years later this law is still very important to our workplace. Are you familiar with the basic components of the ADA? This two-hour workshop for supervisors provides an overview of the ADA and how it applies to you.

7.) $84 Louisville football season tickets

UofL faculty and staff may still reserve season tickets in the UPS Flight Deck for $84 each. These season tickets are valid for all seven home games in the 2013 football season only and are nonrenewable.

8.) Pre-2010 Blackboard course shells to be deleted

All pre-2010 Blackboard course shells remaining on the active Blackboard server will be deleted after Friday, May 31, as part of our course archive and purge cycle. If there is a need to retain any content from these course shells, users should export the contents to a local drive for later access. These courses have been archived and can be restored for a limited time at a later date to retrieve content if necessary.

Studies

9.) People age 18 and older needed for a research study of depression

University of Louisville Healthcare Outpatient Center, 401 East Chestnut St., Suite 610

Free to qualifying participants

The study of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for depression, conducted at the UofL Depression Center, will compare the conventional form of CBT with a newer, innovative model that uses computer-assisted instruction in addition to individual sessions. To qualify, participants must be 18 or older, have a primary diagnosis of depression and be willing to commit to a 16 week course of therapy, followed by two visits at three and six months post-therapy.
