Susan Matarese, political science, and Paul Salmon, psychological & brain sciences, explore factors that set Shaker health practices apart from those of the broader U.S. society. The Shakers were one of America’s most enduring utopian societies, spanning more than 200 years. A millenialist sect that sought to create “heaven on earth,” they lived long and healthy lives in communities stretching from New England to Kentucky. What can we learn from them?
Additional Information: Reservations to janna@louisville.edu, 852-2247, are required.
