The University of Louisville Athletic Department 2013-14 budget will grow by 8 percent.

The UofL Athletic Association board approved the budget at its June 4 meeting.

The $77 million budget includes slight increases in the price of men’s basketball and football tickets along with spending for new and upgraded facilities.

The ULAA board also approved a $15 million taxable loan from PNC Bank to help cover the upfront costs of the new soccer stadium—for which officials broke ground last week—and a sound system for Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium. It also will cover additions to Patterson (baseball) and Ulmer (softball) stadiums.

The board’s personnel committee praised Athletic Director Tom Jurich as it conducted his annual performance review. Committee and faculty member Elaine Wise cited Jurich’s focus on academics and called him, “the best athletics director in the country.”

During his report to the board, Jurich introduced Christine Krellwitz as the new senior women’s administrator. Krellwitz will take on many of the duties former Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director Julie Hermann held before leaving recently to become athletic director at Rutgers University.
