Art exhibit honors survivors of sexual assault, intimate partner abuse

by UofL Today last modified Mar 17, 2010 09:27 AM

Every two minutes someone is sexually assaulted in the United States.

One in six women and one in 33 men will be sexually assaulted in their lifetimes.

In response, The Center for Women and Families and the University of Louisville have partnered to curate an exhibit of nearly 60 "altered books" to honor survivors of sexual assault and intimate partner abuse.

"New Leaves for New Lives" features a diverse selection of books that community members have transformed into mixed media works of art.

The exhibit will open with a reception March 25, 5 p.m.-7 p.m. in UofL's Kain Rare Book Gallery, lower level, Ekstrom Library. It will run through May 21.
