Annual ‘PINK’ drag show is March 21

Get ready because its time for PINK 2014, UofL’s annual drag and variety show.

The annual show is 8 p.m., March 21, in the Swain Student Activities Center Multipurpose Room.  A 21-and-over cocktail reception hosted by the LGBT Alumni Group starts at 6:30 p.m. at the University Club.  RSVP here for the reception.

Hosted by the LGBT Center and its affiliated student groups, the event is UofL’s longest-running, student-organized fundraiser.

PINK 2014 celebrates UofL’s rich culture and continuing support of campus diversity.

“It’s such a good time. It’s an accessible and celebrated part of LGBT culture for people who otherwise might not ever see a drag show,” said Brian Buford, director of the LGBT Center.

PINK began in 1997 to honor the memory of Ken Terrill, an associate professor of theatre arts and a long-time advocate for LGBT students.

Faculty and staff competed again this year in the “Making Change” competition to determine who will win a spot to perform in the show.  Brian Buford, Nefertiti Burton, Matt Real, Tierney Bates, Elizabeth Delaney, Sally Evans, Ashleigh Taylor and Danielle Dolan were the contestants and people voted for their favorite by dropping money into their buckets at the Intersection.  The winner will be announced prior to PINK and will be a featured performer during the show.

Proceeds from the performance benefit the LGBT Center and help fund the programs, support, advocacy, and education efforts that won the center a five-star rating last year from Campus Pride.  The "Making Change" competition specifically helped fund a Civil Rights Immersion Experience for residents of the Rustin Community earlier this month.

Tickets will be available at the door and are $10 for community members, $7 for faculty and staff with ID and $5 for students with ID.

Advance tickets are available from 11 a.m. -2 p.m. March 19-21, on the second level of the SAC, across from the Multipurpose Room.
