Metropolitan College was formed in 1998 to provide UPS with a reliable source of part-time employees to staff its new Louisville air hub. In return, the company offers those workers paid tuition at the University of Louisville and Jefferson Community and Technical College. For 10 years now, the vibrant partnership has been a success story for the community, the company and, most importantly, the students.
'Remote presence' robots, the latest advance in computer-based telemedicine, are helping University of Louisville physicians provide on-site expertise to hospitals across Kentucky without leaving Louisville. Eleven partner hospitals now use the robots, which have facilitated scores of consultations with UofL doctors since their introduction last year.
The Brothers Crawford—University of Louisville graduates Todd, Trey and Ryan—were busy pursuing their own educational paths in 2002. But priorities changed on a hot day in August of that year when a swimming accident left Todd paralyzed. The brothers now raise money for spinal cord research.
