Pivot to Fall
UofL remains dedicated to bringing the Cardinal Family back to campus for the Fall 2020 semester in the safest possible way. As we continue to monitor the governor’s and CDC guidelines, please know that we are considering every aspect of campus life to help you stay healthy and lower the risk of infection. You can review the university’s planning document “Pivot to Fall 2020” for a complete accounting of our safety measures.

Campus Health Requirements
Prior to arriving on campus, all students are required to complete a 10-12 minute video session about returning to campus and reducing COVID-19 risks for themselves and the Cardinal community. Log-in instructions will be sent to students’ UofL email account around July 15.

Move-in
In order to support physical distancing as much as possible, residents will be able to choose from two check-in options this year: drop-and-go and move-in. Both appointment processes will look the same except that students will not be able to remain in their rooms after drop-and-go. They will be able to re-access their rooms beginning on the first day of their hall’s move-in. In order to schedule an appointment, all residents must first log into the Housing Portal to electronically sign an addendum to their housing license agreement. They must also complete a resident-specific health module titled “Coronavirus: Managing Stress and Anxiety” and wait one full business day before logging into the Housing Portal to schedule an appointment.

Review Your Schedule of Classes Now
If you are already registered for fall classes, please check your online schedule to verify the course types of your classes. The delivery method (hybrid or online) for each course is still being finalized. If you are registered for a class that is changing delivery method—for example moving from hybrid to online only—you will be notified of the change in case you’d like to adjust your schedule. If you want to make changes, now is the time. You may also want to reach out to your Advisor to discuss options. Course designations are as follows:
DE – Distance Ed (100% digital instruction with no designated meeting times except possibly for exams)
RT – Remote (100% instruction with synchronous sessions available at the time and days designated in the schedule)
HY – Hybrid (25-75% of course taught face-to-face with remaining taught online)

Hybrid Courses
Fall semester classes for undergraduate and most graduate students will begin August 17 in a hybrid course format. Hybrid courses combine traditional face-to-face instructional activities with some online learning activities. The hybrid model enables the university to quickly switch to online-only if necessary. For every contact hour, students should expect to spend two additional hours outside of class learning the material, working on projects or assessments.

Graduate Students
Graduate students should review the detailed guidelines for graduate students, which outlines UofL’s commitment to supporting funded graduate students under our COVID-19 response for the fall. Graduate students should plan on continuing their research, creative activity, and service or teaching duties through the end of the semester in accordance with the university’s safe return to work policies and following the EVPRI’s protocols for reducing COVID-19 exposure in the research environment.
