The MolinaCares Accord and the University of Louisville announce student art, essay and infographic contest to promote inaugural Medication Literacy Month

The MolinaCares Accord (“MolinaCares”) in collaboration with Passport Health Plan by Molina Healthcare, and the University of Louisville Frazier Polypharmacy Program have partnered to promote the university’s first-ever Medication Literacy Month by hosting an art, essay and infographic contest open to students in fifth through 11th grades in Kentucky.

“With approximately 20,000 prescription and 300,000 over-the-counter products available to consumers today, understanding the medications we are taking and how to do so safely and effectively has never been more critical,” said Demetra Antimisiaris, PharmD, leader of the Medication Literacy Project.

Part of a larger initiative dedicated to education, research and outreach regarding issues associated with the use of multiple prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, supplements and vitamins, Medication Literacy Month will be held during June. Students can submit their art, essays and infographics for the “Educate Before You Medicate” contest between June 1 to July 31, 2021.

“Medication education is important to all of us,” said basketball legend Darrell “Dr. Dunkenstein” Griffith, a 1980 UofL alumnus and this year’s honorary ambassador for the Medication Literacy Project. “Students entering the competition will have the opportunity to be a positive advocate for medication literacy with their family and within the community. I appreciate the MolinaCares Accord and Passport for their support of this program and our community”

“We are grateful to partner with the University of Louisville, a national leader in health care education, to shine a light on the importance of medication literacy,” said Ryan Sadler, plan president of Passport Health Plan by Molina Healthcare. “Through these efforts, we hope to empower students to learn more about this important issue.”
