National Public Health Week 2019

During National Public Health Week, SPHIS is hosted a series of events to focus attention on creating a healthier community. We invited the entire SPHIS community – students, faculty, staff, alumni, and partners –to join us for an exciting week of events.

 

 

April 1 - 7            

Tweet-a-Thon

Students, staff, faculty, alumni, and friends are encouraged to participate in National Public Health Week (NPHW) by tweeting on various public health topics.

Throughout the week, please tweet your messages promoting the NPHW themes using the hashtag #NPHW and tagging @ULSPHIS. Links, photos, and videos are encouraged.

NPHW Annual Drive

We are collecting personal care items for the Home of the Innocents.

-- toothbrush & toothpaste

-- body wash (unscented/sensitive skin)

-- shampoo & conditioner (both Caucasian and African American-specific products needed)

-- detangler spray 

-- hair moisturizer

-- ponytails (no metal)

-- towels

-- oil

-- shea butter

-- Drop-off items in the boxes available on Belknap and HSC.

NPHW Daily Theme - Healthy Communities

-- Promotion of healthy habits – "Wash your hands!" stickers available in the restrooms on Belknap and HSC

-- SPHIS is partnering with PEACC to promote a documentary on sexual assault created by Julia Curran, former UofL student. Snacks provided. Floyd Theatre, 6 p.m.

APHA Twitter Chat

APHA hosts the ninth annual National Public Health Week Twitter Chat on Wednesday, April 3 at 2 pm ET. They'll discuss all things public health, celebrate everything public health has accomplished, and talk about where the movement is going.  Learn more about this year's theme — "For science. For action. For health," — and how you can be a part of NPHW on the APHA website.

NPHW Daily Theme – Rural Health

Our Office of Student Services and university partners will set up in the Humanities Quad on Belknap Campus (HSC – fruit available after 3:00 p.m. in Student Services 013) to distribute fruit and public health information to students, faculty, and staff. Stop by and say hi!

NPHW Daily Theme – Technology and Public Health

Visit the SPHIS Facebook page to answer a trivia question about technology and public health. One winner (who answers correctly) will be randomly selected to win a SPHIS gift!
