Donation creates new travel fund for students
The Dean’s Office is pleased to announce that Mr. Bob Whitaker (BS ’89), Senior Vice President of Corporate Finance for DHL, made a generous gift of $25,000 and created the Whitaker Travel Fund for Public Health Students. The fund was established to support students pursuing travel opportunities that advance their scholarship, academic, or career pursuits. This includes attending professional conferences and studying abroad.
“While most learning takes place in the classroom, there is no substitute for practical application. Whether that is the annual trip to Ghana, or the sharing of ideas at conferences, these opportunities are an essential part of the students’ growth. The travel fund was set up to make these critical experiences available to more students,” said Mr. Whitaker.
Angela Champion Sprowl, the school’s Director of Development, emphasized this is Mr. Whitaker’s second contribution to SPHIS. “We are very grateful for Mr. Whitaker’s gifts that makes it possible for public health students to achieve their professional aspirations, especially during this extraordinary time.”
