Chinese students learn about public health in the United States
Visitors from Jinan University
Students from the School of Medicine, Department of Public Health, at Jinan University in Guangzhou, China are in Louisville this week to learn about public health practice (with an emphasis on environmental health), and health care delivery in the United States. The seven students and one faculty will take part in a combination of academic lectures, visits to labs, University Hospital and the Louisville Metro Department of Health and Wellness, as well as a tour of a local meat processing plant.
This week long visit is the outgrowth of an agreement with the School of Medicine at Jinan University and the UofL School of Public Health and Information Sciences to foster student interaction, with the long-term goal of fostering collaboration through student exchanges. The goal of the relationship also involves developing exchange opportunities for faculty within public health and other units on the health sciences campus.
SPHIS students learned about Chinese public health challenges when they visited Jinan University two years ago. The idea of the collaboration was birthed from Robert Jacobs' experience as a Fulbright Scholar in China from 2010-2011.
