2019 Alumnus of the Year -- Dr. Lewatis McNeal
Dr. Lewatis McNeal completed his Doctor of Philosophy in Public Health Sciences at the University of Louisville in 2016. He received his Bachelor of Science in Nutrition from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in 2003 and his Master of Public Heath from Western Kentucky University in 2005.
Dr. McNeal serves as Associate Dean in the College of Education at Northern Kentucky University. Dr. McNeal oversees administrative operations, provides leadership and guidance for diversity and inclusive excellence initiatives and assists with ensuring academic quality in teaching, scholarship, service, and accreditation within the college.
Prior to his work at Northern Kentucky, Dr. McNeal served as Associate Dean of Student Affairs with Owensboro Community & Technical College. He has worked as a Graduate Advisor and Student Recruiter and Adjunct Instructor for Western Kentucky University, a Health State Program Leader in the College of Agriculture at Mississippi State University, and a Rural Health Coordinator for Trover Health Systems (now Baptist Health) and at the University of Kentucky Center for Rural Health. Dr. McNeal began his career as an Extension Agent for 4-H/Youth Development at the University of Kentucky.
Dr. McNeal is a member of the Northern Kentucky University Inclusive Excellence Advisory Council and board member for the Kentucky State Humanities. He has served on the boards of the H.L. Neblett Community Center, the Daviess County Public Library, the Kentucky Youth Advocates, and the Owensboro Area World Affairs Council. Dr. McNeal formerly served as President of the Daviess County morning Rotary Club in Owensboro, Kentucky.
Dr. McNeal received Northern Kentucky University’s Black Faculty and Staff Association 2018-2019 Presidential Award. He was elected to the University of Louisville School of Public Health and Information Sciences’ Delta Omega Honorary Society in 2019. Dr. McNeal was the recipient of the 2014 Owensboro Human Relations Commission Inaugural Emerging Leader Award.
