Though I grew up in a college town, I was a first-generation college student. I made my share of mistakes during my academic journey and discovered the importance of having personal connections with faculty, staff, and mentors.
I earned my Master of Education in Counseling and Personnel Services (College Student Personnel Concentration) at U of L in 2011 and I’ve held a variety of jobs including higher education positions in two states and the District of Columbia.
Higher education offers students the space, time, and experiences to learn about themselves as well as to gain knowledge and skills for the future. In addition to ensuring that students are successful in their academic pursuits, I believe that academic advisors can guide students to develop social capital which will ensure their success and happiness after graduation.
