MPH concentration in Epidemiology: Students who choose a concentration in epidemiology receive advanced training in the theory and methods of epidemiology, with an emphasis on descriptive epidemiology, field methods (e.g. the investigation of disease outbreaks), disease surveillance and the use of various public health databases.  This curriculum is designed to prepare students for careers in epidemiologic practice in local, state and federal health agencies. Click to learn more about the course requirements for this concentration or about the MPH Program.

MPH concentration in Global Public Health with an Emphasis in Maternal & Child Health -- This program aims to prepare public health professionals with the skills and perspectives necessary to contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of global health programs. Students engage in practices that will improve the health and well-being of underserved populations in low and middle income settings abroad and within the United States. Students learn to (1) assess the burden and determinants of health problems in culturally diverse environments in both national and international settings; (2) design, implement and evaluate relevant intervention programs that address global health issues using multidisciplinary approaches; and (3) apply leadership skills in the development of culturally sensitive policies that foster the development of sustainable, effective, health programs. Click to learn more about the course requirements for this concentration or about the MPH Program.

The Master of Science in Epidemiology provides intensive education and training in the concepts and methods of epidemiology and biostatistics for those interested in careers in research on the determinants of health and disease in populations. The program differs from the MPH in the level of depth and rigorous focus on skills needed for epidemiologic research. It is targeted at health professionals seeking more intensive training in research and provides a pathway to the doctoral degree in epidemiology. The PhD in Public Health Sciences in Epidemiology provides advanced training in specialized methods and professional skills in grant and manuscript writing and oral presentation. PhD students are required to select a specialized area of emphasis, which may be disease-based (e.g. infectious disease or cancer) or methods-based (e.g. nutrition or genetics), and take coursework in a minor area of interest (e.g. biostatistics, environmental health behavior, health systems or bioterrorism).
